Richard E. Vawter, 64, Merrillville/Crown Point, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.
He was a local attorney for many years in Merrillville. He was devoted to his family and friends but especially to his two children Ryan and Marissa and his dog, Rocky. He was an avid lover of sports, especially the Chicago Bulls. In his honor the family requests that you go out and do something fun, travel the world (something he loved to do) but above all-- love and hug your family!
He was a graduate of Sheridan High School, Ball State University and Chicago Kent College of Law. Prior to attending law school, he worked at US Steel, Gary Works for 7 years. He was a Member of the Board for IN-PACT for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife Wanda; two children, Ryan Vawter of Crown Point, and Marissa ( Lynn Lee) Vawter-Lee of Cincinnati; his mother, Betty of Sheridan; a sister, Pamela Hintalla (William) of Riverview, Mich.; two brothers, Phil (Tina) of Sheridan, and Keith (Janet) of Noblesville; sister-in-law, Brenda S. Lycan of Rockville; and brother-in-law, Frank A. (Pam) Freeman of Ft. Wayne.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Vawter.
