Donna Jo Pickett, 85, Sheridan, passed away Aug. 22, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born June 10, 1933 to the late John Kyle and Frances Mae (Stevenson) Eccles in Columbus, Wisc.

She was a graduate of the Whiteland High School class of 1951. After graduating, she was employed at the Bell Telephone Company where she worked in the accounting department. She later took a position with the Dragoo Tax Office in Sheridan. It was there that she delighted in her visits with the client’s she served. Donna also worked in the Sheridan Community Schools cafeteria for many years. She enjoyed interacting with all of the students on a daily basis. Prior to retirement, she held the position of co-owner and office manager for Pickett X-Ray. However, being a homemaker and taking care of her family was the job that she loved the most.

On April 24, 1955 she and Jim Pickett were married in Greenwood. They have been at each other’s side for more than 63 loving years. Both cherished serving their community and their faith.

Mrs. Pickett was very involved in her community. She was the longest active member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority in Sheridan. She was a member of the Sheridan Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary for more than 30 years. She served as her children’s Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. Mr. and Mrs. Pickett were active members of the Sheridan First United Methodist Church for 50-plus years. She used her gifts and talents as a member of the Mission Committee and Koinonia Women’s Circle along with the Financial Committee and Greeter Committee at church. You could often find her serving the community; she enjoyed assisting with the Sheridan First United Methodist Church Lunch Club. She also regularly assisted with an annual fund-raising event at the church (Coal Supper). Within the community, she helped deliver Meals on Wheels for 29 years and volunteered at the Sheridan Historical Society for nearly 30 years. Mr. and Mrs. Pickett enjoyed playing cards and spending time with their friends in their euchre club that met regularly for 60 years.

Survivors include their loving family of four children, Linda (Judy Graham) Pickett of Sheridan, Dr. Jay (Nancy) Pickett of Texas, Janice (Jeff) Millikan of Sheridan; nine grandchildren, Chris Pickett of Texas, Dr. Stephen (Laura) Pickett of Texas, Dr. Grant (Dr. June) Pickett of Texas, Kelly (Jonathan) Billiot of Texas, Matt (Stacey) Millikan of Noblesville, Dylan (Nicole) Millikan of California, Emma Millikan of Sheridan, Garrett Welch of Sheridan and Owen Welch of Indianapolis; five great-grandchildren Cohen Billiot, James Pickett, Sophia, Sarah and Megan Millikan; a beloved sister, Dianne Willian of Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Beth Welch who passed away in 2008.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Sheridan First United Methodist Church, 207 E. 2nd St. in Sheridan. Family and friends may pay their respects Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Carol Fritz will be officiating. Following the funeral, she will be laid to rest at Crown View Cemetery in Sheridan.
