Horseshoe pitching is a sport that became popular during the glory days of Rome. The horseshoe toss grew into one of the most played games around. Whether at picnics, or company and family gatherings, people would gather for some fun and relaxation.

Since its heyday, the sport’s popularity has decreased in time. But, a sport many believe to be dead, still exists in Sheridan.

The Sheridan Horseshoe League is ready to start another summer of fun and relaxation at the Biddle Memorial Park courts. The league uses a handicap system similar to bowling, which helps level the playing field for players of all skill levels. This year, the league will hold three open tournaments for people of all pitching abilities. O’Reilly Auto Parts will sponsor their second annual tournament in July.

The league will have its Organizational Meeting on May 1 at 6:30 p.m. Rain or shine you can find information, as some of the members will be at the courts April 21 between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
